web page acknowledges allegiance to the
Supreme
Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, whose seat
of authority is in McAlester, Oklahoma, of which Reverend
W. Mark Sexson was the founder and Mrs. Marie Renda
(2006-2008) is Supreme Worthy Advisor,
and to the Grand Jurisdiction of Texas of which
Mrs.
Marlene Dibrell, is our Supreme Deputy, and Sister
Shelley Ashcraft (2007-2008) is our
Grand Worthy Advisor.
Many hours of hard work and planning brought us to
this date when Huisache Assembly Letters of Temporary was instituted and the
officers installed. April 17, 1956: the members of Huisache Assembly were
initiated. We had 56 members, some new in Rainbow and some were by demit from
other assemblies. April 24, 1956: The first business meeting was held June 1956:
Our first Grand Assembly was held in Houston and was attended by 13 girls and 4
adults. October 6, 1956: The first regular Installation of Officers was held
and Miss Maxine Hammond was installed as Worthy Advisor. January 22, 1957: Mrs.
Martha Marie Whiffield chose to Constitute Huisache Assembly on this date and we
became Huisache Assembly #267. February 28, 1996: A new meeting place. With the
sale of the Eastern Star Temple, Huisache Assembly needed a new home. The Masons
of Lonnie Irvin Daylight Lodge #1 309 and Triune Lodge #1 5 have graciously
allowed us to meet in their lovely Lodge and have agreed to co-sponsor this
Assembly with Bexar Chapter #616, Prospect Hill Chapter #817 and Texas Chapter
#35. We look forward to many more years of Rainbow love.
From March 24, 1956 to March 24, 1996 is 40 years. We are looking forward to our
Golden Anniversary in the year 2006. We sincerely hope that all of us will be
here to help celebrate. The following is quoted from the report of Miss Nancy
Reming, the first Worthy Advisor. "From a tiny seed of thought and planning
has grown a sturdy tree --- A Huisache Tree. The seed was the efforts of the
Eastern Stars and Masons who worked to start our assembly growing. I am grateful
to those people for placing their confidence in me to help give our tree strong
roots and I am thankful to my officers for helping our tree grow straight and
strong." Huisache Assembly has changed over the years. We have had our
rough times and we have had our wonderful times. We are strong like the Huisache
tree and together we will survive and Rainbow will survive. Our membership is on
the rise. With the love and support of the Eastern Stars, Masons and Parents we
will continue to prosper. Remember girls, Rainbow is an important part of your
life, you will be more knowledgeable adults if you practice the teachings of the
Rainbow. Take a moment now and look around you. In our midst are the wonderful
ladies that have either served as our Mother Advisors or Worthy Advisors, we
take this time to thank you for what you have given and are still giving to girlkind.
We started 40 years ago with eight Eastern Star Chapters as our sponsoring body.
These Chapters were: Adah Chapter #49 Alamo Chapter #665 Bethany Chapter *912
Bexar Chapter #616 Prospect Hill Chapter #817 Radiant Chapter #636 San Antonio
Chapter #3 and Texas Chapter *35 We thank each of these Chapter for the start
and continued support that they have given to this Assembly.

In 1948 when the Eastern Star Temple Association was organized and the building
at 1947 W. Huisache was purchased, the idea of a fourth Assembly for San Antonio
was developed. Many hours of work and planning by Mr. and Mrs. Harry P. Morris
from 1948 to 1956 brought us to the election of a Board member from each
chapter. On February 22, 1956 a meeting was held at the home of Agnes &
Harry Morris. It was at this meeting that Mrs. Eleanor Newcomb of San Antonio
Chapter #3 was elected Mother Advisor and Mrs. Grace Johnson of Bethany Chapter
#912 was elected Chairman of the Board. March 24, 1956:
